Aged Sumatra

HERBAL, EARTHY, LOW ACIDITY

(13 customer reviews)

$14.00

Clear

A unique coffee. The beans are aged in their skin (pergamino) and stored in the cooler air of the farm rather than in the humidity of the port of Medan. The coffee is only hulled just prior to export. We recommend enjoying as a pour over or French Press!

  • Aged 3 years
  • Heavy body with leather/tobacco notes
  • No pronounced acidity, dense and earthy

This is now my favorite coffee. Low acid. I cold brew it, and it really brings out the nuttiness. The earthiness reminds me a bit of the earthiness in cured meats like prosciutto.

We love this coffee, we drink it every day made with a French press. Its smooth and low acid. It’s our favorite.

I love this coffee. I was first turned onto it by a customer I visited for business and she shared this with me for lunch. She puts a scant palm-full of ground rose hips and a dash of cinnamon into the coffee grinds before brewing and I have been making my coffee the same way ever since.

I love this coffee! It is so smooth and mellow. The low acidity is also a plus. I will definitely order this again. I must say that I have never been disappointed in a Telluride coffee.

Thanks Barbara…this is really a unique coffee. It’s really good when puled as an espresso shot too

Hands down the best coffee I’ve ever had. Smooth as silk, no trade off bitterness, and the aroma is amazing. Please keep up the good work!

Mick suggested this as a favorite. Gotta say, the aroma alone is fantastic. I also cold brew this in the fridge and it’s ridiculously good. Smooth as silk. I’m hooked. Wish I had an espresso machine. Seems like it would make amazing shots. Thanks again Mick. Your shop is like heaven.

On and off over the years I’ve been looking for a good source for my favourite coffe – Aged Sumatra – to buy on a regular basis. Just bought a new Chemex and good burr grinder, so I though tI’d look around again. Telluride nailed it. I’m on the 5lb/2mos subscription. Great beans!

Thanks Ralph! We like this one too…pulls a great shot of espresso as well!
      Cheers

I’m not sure of the chemistry that makes aged coffee so smooth and unique but Telluride’s variety has those qualities. A certain coffee company’s Christmas Blend had Aged Indonesian coffee in it but that variety has been lost in their vast global corporate maw. Telluride’s variety is highly recommended.

This coffee is fantastic. It is a rich dark roast that is smooth smooth smooth. This is my new favorite bean.
Also love these guys. I ordered my coffee on Monday, it was roasted Tuesday and in my hands Wednesday. Just GREAT.
    Thanks guys.

I was so excited to find another roaster that offered AGED SUMATRA. Aged coffees are rare, and very special. The aging process(like wine and beer and cheese) releases lots of nutrients and antioxidants that are normally not available to us. It arrived so fast and so fresh, I should have let it rest for another week really. It shocked me when I made a batch on the 4th day. It was so different from my normal Aged brew, not really rested yet. My bad.
Of course now I love it. In the future I will let it rest for a week OR SO.
There is nothing worse than loving something and not being able to have it all the time !!!!
It is a Medium roast so I can only enjoy a half a cup at a time. Buttery. Nutty. The pungent bold part (they call this earthiness) is really the AGED taste brought forward. That was very strong at first, so resting was important. Its perfect now. That tastes indicates all the good antioxidants. A little honey and its like a caramel coffee sunday for me. Who could stop drinking that ?

The aged Sumatra is superior and unique to anything else. I thouroughly enjoy it made in a French press which is the best way to brew it in my opinion to really bring out its full flavor. I always buy five pounds at a time so that shipping is free. If you have never tried it I think you will find out just how good it really is.

I didn’t like it, at all. After one cup I tossed all the remaining beans in the trash. I was expecting a dark roast with rich, full bodied flavor. The beans I got were light tan and the brew had little flavor and an unpleasant after taste.

    • Mick Hill

Hi Jon, I’m sorry to hear that. We do have a Dark Sumatra which you might prefer. We roast the Aged and the Royal a medium roast level and that’s how we described them. I’d be happy to send you a 24oz bag of the Dark Sumatra at my expense if you like? Let me know please
      Best regards
      Mick Hill

My go-to for years now. Just a perfect, low acidity, smooth, earthy-chocolatey coffee. 6/5 French kiss emoji.
